Obituary for Fannie Mae Nickerson

Fannie Mae Nickerson
Fannie Mae Nickerson was born in Saluda, South Carolina the proud parents of Geraldine and Hardy Simpkins. She was the third of seven children. Four of her siblings have preceded her in going home to be with the Lord. She was raised in Manhattan and then the family moved to Jamaica, Queens.

Fannie married George Nickerson. Fannie leaves behind to cherish her memories George Samuel Nickerson, her eldest son, Karl Andrew Nickerson, Fannie's second son and her youngest and only daughter Debra Henderson. Fannie has two daughters-in-law Claudette and Paula Nickerson. Fannie has several grandchildren, Aisha Nickerson, Juawuan Williams, Karl and Paul Nickerson, Keith Jusino and Devin Henderson. Great grandchildren Deana Noble, Keith Jusino Jr., Kennedy, Kaylee and Kai. One sister Gladys Weaver and one brother Ulysses Simpkins and one sister-in law Lola Simpkins. Fannie leave a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Fannie's family joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Jamaica, Queens and was baptized by Dr. Rev James Henry Jackson. Fannie was a hard worker in Mt. Zion. She supervised the Intermediate Choir and as far as Fannie was concerned each and every child on the Intermediate Choir was her child. She loved guiding them and showing them her love. Fannie was also a member of the Evangelistic Choir. When Fannie sang she was in her personal glory singing praises to the Lord. Fannie served the Mt. Zion Baptist Church until she became ill in 1990. She truly missed coming to church, singing on the choir and seeing all of her friends in Christ.

Fannie was employed in the garment district in Manhattan/an early age and later in life worked for the Rochdale Co-Op Supermarket retiring as the Front End Manager after 22 year of service.

Fannie's children carry all of the lessons she taught them and carry these lessons with them to this day. She was the best teacher her children could have had and always showed them "a mother's love".

Fannie was obligated to her children, a hard working parent who raised 3 children. She made sure that each of her children never waivered for love and comfort. Her children was always first. She had a high standard for her children and she expected them to accomplish these standards and high achievements. Fannie was a phenomenal mother who instilled values within her children. Fannie was a fashionable lady and always carried herself with dignity, grace and pride,

She taught her children to be proud, walk with strength and always be respectable. She will always be her children’s rock and the example that they will follow.
