Obituary for George Johnson

George Johnson
George Johnson was born on March 10, 1950 in Harlem Hospital, New York to the late Daniel and Naomi Johnson. A native New Yorker, George would call Brooklyn and later Queens his home. He was raised in Salem United Methodist Church in Harlem where his mother Naomi sang in the choir. George's active involvement in a multitude of activities began at a young age. He participated in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and the Sea Cadets of Brooklyn. He ran CYO track and field and participated in various events.

George graduated from John Adams High School in 1969. After graduation he attended the New York City School of Printing and Queensboro Community College. In later years, he went back to school to study at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. George worked as a bus operator for the New York City Transit Authority and retired after 20 years of service. Thereafter, he worked as an inspector for the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission. George then entered the field of law enforcement and worked as a detention officer for the U.S. Department of Justice Immigration & Naturalization Service and finally, as an officer for the New York City Hospital Police, among other assignments. As a result of his involvement in law enforcement, George was a member of the NYS Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 69 and Edelman's Clearmeadow Pistol Club.

George married the love of his life, Denise, in 1972 and recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary a month before his passing. From this union, one child was born, a daughter, Jade. George had a flair for fashionable suits and shoes, especially "gators." He enjoyed jogging, bike riding, playing basketball and most physical activities. He was very passionate about classic cars, specifically Mopar's. Though George acquired many cars over the years, his pride and joy was his 1969 Plymouth Satellite. It would not be uncommon to see George at the Friday night cruise spots, car shows, or any event muscle cars would be present.

George enjoyed cooking (and was better than his wife Denise) and would watch the Food Network channel to gather new recipes. Diners, Drive-ins & Dives was one of his favorite shows to watch, even though Guy Fieri drove a red Camaro.

George leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Denise, daughter, Jade, brothers Mack, Mike, Andre and Stewart, brothers-in-law Stephen and Casmere, sisters-in-law Connie and Regina, nephews Dwayne, Tony, Terrence and Kendall, niece Shariyka, many other relatives and friends and, last but not least, his two dogs, Max and Claire.

Hun, Daddy, George, we miss you.
