Obituary for Virginia Slaughter

Virginia Slaughter
Virginia Moore-Chapman-Slaughter-Benjamin was born to the late John W. Chapman & Emma L. Moore, May 19, 1924 in Montrose, Mississippi.

Virginia was called home peacefully August 27, 2014 at home.

Virginia married Joseph Slaughter, June 4th 1943 in Gorgas, Alabama who preceded her in death July 22nd 1968. Both Virginia & Joseph came to New York to build their lives together. Virginia was a seamstress and sample maker for many famous clothing designers for over thirty years. She was a great cook & pastry maker, especially sweet potato pies but above all was a servant of the Lord.

Virginia married the late Deacon Eugene O. Benjamin June 18th 1983 by cousin Rev. Henry Oscar Chapman. Both were members of Shiloh and formed The Helping Hand Ministry of Shiloh, which still operate today.

Virginia was also a member of The Missionary Ministry, Eastern Star of Alabama and was in love with Shiloh.

She loved any activity that involved God, family, & church family.

Virginia was a true woman of God, an excellent mother, friend and although she is gone from earth, has left many great lessons learned, great memories to treasure. My mom taught me the meaning of. “Peace Be Still” and let God make it happen.

Virginia leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Dorothy Timberlake, cousin, Barbara N. Moore-Pettit and husband Dwight Pettit of Baltimore, Maryland, cousin Alvin Pettit of New Jersey, cousin Nahisha & George Pettit of Los Angeles, California, goddaughters, Virginia “Jenny” Jones & Kimberly Jones & godson, Arthur “Turo” Sobers, cousin Frank Chatman, cousin James Chatman, cousin Rev. & Mrs. Henry Oscar Chapman, The Sobers Family, George Addison, Arthur “Jimmy” Rivers and a host of relatives, friends, neigh bors of 209th Street and her church family at Shiloh.
