Obituary for Adelle Johnson

Adelle Johnson
Adelle was born on December 28, 1928 in St. Matthews South Carolina, to the late Idele Starks and James Irving.

Adelle moved to New York City at a young age; there she met and married Orbie Lee Johnson. To this union were 9 children. The family spent many years in Harlem, New York before settling in Cambria Heights, Queens New York in 1968.

Adelle was a stern, straightforward, warm loving virtuous woman. She enjoyed helping those in need; however along with the help she would not be reluctant to express her point of view or tell it like it is.

Adelle was a homemaker all her life until her health failed. She truly mastered her calling as a "Mother"- a mother who provided, a mother who protected, a mother who chastened, a mother who gave golden wisdom, a mother who's discernment was sharp, a mother who loved unconditionally, a mother who was a great friend.

When there was a need Adelle was there without hesitation. She raised her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and helped raise a countless number of children who were not her own; but who needed a home, guidance, a spanking, and a mother's love. Adelle also worked at Wackenhut for 2 days as a Security Guard and was a certified Foster Parent.

Adelle dedicated her life to her loving husband and family. She loved family trips driving across country, gardening, sewing, shopping, hosting numerous family barbecues, and date night with her favorite shows; Jerry Springer, Maury, Steve Harvey, and her shoot'em ups (Westerns).

Adelle was truly a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Adelle departed this life in October 18, 2014. Her husband, mother, and son precedes her in death. Adelle leaves to cherish her memories her eight children and one daughter in law; Kenneth Johnson, Keith Johnson, Michael Starks (Linda Starks), Ramona Ramsey (Roland) Celeste Blair (Jay), Valerie Steele, Laverne Johnson (Nathaniel), Victoria Johnson, Stacey Johnson, fourteen grandchildren, Orvetta, Renee, Alease, Jamyce, Lakeishsa, Victor, Tanika, Beth, Janelle, Brianna, Bianca ,Danika Rose, and Shyliek; twenty great-grands, Greggory, Raiesha, Ray, Denise, Destiny, Dunasha, Dumani, Shyheim, Maliek, Meranda, Shamari, Shymiek, Dajean, Taylor, Kevin, Matthew, Michael, Maurice, Anerce, and Kahlil, two great great grandchildren, Jayla ,Josh cousins and a host of family and friends. and a host of family and friends.

We celebrate this life and thank God for the memories. Adelle touched the lives of us all and will be immensely missed.
