Obituary for James Robert Drew
A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, James Drew, 79, of Queens, NY passed away peacefully on October 22, 2014 with his family present. He was born May 4, 1935 in Virginia to Dorothy and Boyd Drew. He resided in Queens, NY for the past 50 plus years. In the 1960s James was an astute business owner in Cypress Hills, NY where he specialized in the sale of stuffed animals & toy industry.
As a young man James was nicknamed “Cadillac”. In his glory days James owned a fancy Cadillac he cherished and loved that he named “Black Beauty”. James loved relaxing in his favorite chair at home and letting the time pass as he watched Country Western television shows & movies, a daily routine hobby which gave him much pleasure. His all time favorite sports team was the Brooklyn Dodgers. James enjoyed being with his family and friends during special occasions. He also enjoyed attending church with his late mother Evangelist Dorothy Drew to whom he was close to until her final day.
He is survived by his first wife, Jessie Jones Drew of Far Rockaway, NY; daughters Renée, Jacqueline, Deborah (Deceased), Chan, Dally (aka Carol) (Raymond) Davis; son Darrin (Rita) Drew; Grandchildren Tory, Anthony (Deborah) Drew, Jade, James (Brashia) Davis, Louis (DaShaunta) Davis, Jasmine, Adia and Christopher; Great-grandchildren Tanisha, Tabria, Teyona, Shyhiem, Kymora and Jay'Mee.
He is also survived by his second wife, Renee McCoy Drew of Jamaica, NY; daughter Charlotte (James) White; sons Wayne (Pamela Jannie Clemons) and Dorian (Catrice McDougal) Drew; grandchildren Tiffany, Brittany, Mercedes, Donte', Alicia and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Born as the second child, he is survived by his siblings; Cleming Boyd (deceased), William Timothy (Patsye Drew), Ronald Ray (deceased), Mary Virginia, Margaret Matilda, Jeanette Clarissa, Hazel Francis (deceased), Boyd Garrett and Nelson Bardett (deceased).
