William Brunson AKA Smokey was born in Washington, D.C. on August 21, 1945, to the late Edie Mae and William Brunson Sr..

He attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Jamaica, Queens. He continued his education studying Electricity and Plumbing and became a Licensed Contractor.

He enjoyed any and all parties, especially family events. He loved “Old School” music and was known as the “Guru of Soul”-DJ Smoke.”

His love of music led him to play in a band as well as become the lead singer.

His final days were spent surrounded by his children, William Eric Jones-Brunson, Michael Jones-Brunson, Westley Brunson and Yvette Brunson Taylor.

Amongst his children was his beloved 14 year companion, confidant and best friend Claudia Crawford.

William was called home on the afternoon of October 29, 2014. He was preceded in death by his late wife Catherine Jones Brunson and two siblings Sonya and Raymond Brunson. William is survived by five other siblings, Rosetta Brunson Pace (Husband Roy Pace Sr.) Margaret Brunson, Roy Brunson (wife Juanita), John Brunson (wife Patricia), and Michael Brunson.

William also leaves behind 5 Grandchildren-16 nieces and nephews, 25 Great nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

William’s life would seem too short to many, but those that knew him understood that quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His charisma and love of life bought much joy to our family.

On behalf of the family we graciously and humbly thank each and every one of you who joined us in the home going of William Brunson Jr., continue to keep is us in prayer.
