Obituary for Bernard "BT" Tanksley

Bernard Tanksley, also known as Bern, BT, Nard, was born May 6, 1965 to Alphonzo and Jennie Tanksley in Jamaica, NY. He departed this life on Monday, November 17, 2014.

Bernard was baptized at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by the late Rev. John B. Mason, where he sang in the church choir and attended Sunday school. He was educated in the New York Public School System. He graduated from Thomas Edison High School in 1983. He was employed at Creedmoor Hospital and later joined the United States Navy, where he served for eight years. After returning from the service, he worked several security jobs and later worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years where he enjoyed working for many years as a mail carrier until he became ill.

Bernard enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was loving, friendly and helpful to all. He is survived by his loving parents Alphonzo and Jennie Tanksley; his beloved sister Arlene T. Merriman (Gerry); his nieces Paris Smith( Brandon), Shamaiah Talley(Andre), and Chauncey Merriman; his nephew Luke Merriman; two great nephews Kayden and Kemauri Smith and one great niece Chloe Talley; two special aunt Mary Middleton (Alonzo); and Margaret Tanksley; childhood friend Todd Hall, and cousin Janet Evans, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
