James Edward Burnett, Jr. was born August 25, 1958 in Manhattan, New York City. James was the eldest of seven children born to James E. Burnett, Sr. and the late Amelia A. Burnett. In the early afternoon hours on Saturday, May 9, 2015, James laid down his burdens and left this world for a better place.
James was predeceased by his mother, Amelia Azetta Burnett, his grandmothers, Marion Ruth Brown and Pearl Burnett Hook, his nephews Kenny C. Burnett and Kareem L. Walters, one aunt, Rosella Cooper Stewart and his niece, Shanaya Samuels.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his two children, Raheem J. Penn and Tashima Penn and their mother, Elaine Penn; three grandchildren, Destinee Penn, Deandre Teague and Yandel Ramon; five siblings, Relicia (Miss Ann), Eric (Wali), Marion, Charlene, Brian and Tonya Burnett; three brothers-in-law, Avery, Joseph, Neil Borden and Angel Rivera; the grandmother of his children, Ms. Ann Penn; fourteen nieces and nephews, Tasha, Shakeya, Terry, Ramsey, Charlie, Imani, Miguel, Mariah, Charisma, Cashmere, Tatyana, James, Amelia and Naquana; nine great nieces and nephews, Aaliyah Mydira C’yana, Destiny (Peanut), Macirem (Maci), James, Tyreem, Gemarie and Alexandria; his four aunts, Jane Frazier, Aunt Harold Hook, Aunt Rosalee Holmes and a whole host of cousins, family and friends. James was blessed.
Poopie/Rockeye enjoyed his life to the fullest he enjoyed playing, listening and watching all kind of sports. He enjoyed his old music and tried his hands at dancing and singing his favorite songs.
James was handsome and caring. He loved his children, family and life. His passion was law, helping and knowing it as well.
