Obituary for Elder Walter Davis Jr.

Elder Walter Davis was born on May 18, 1921 in Hamlet, North Carolina to the Annie Mae Roman and Walter Davis. He was the oldest of five siblings and they all preceded him in death.
After leaving Hamlet for a better life, Elder Davis relocated to Brooklyn, New York and immediately joined the Mt. Oliver Baptist Church where he continued his spiritual walk and it was there he met and married the love of his life Dorothy White.
Elder Davis again decided to relocate, this time to South Ozone Park, New York where he joined the Bethany Baptist Church in Jamaica under the Rev. Dr. W. Leo Hamilton on May 23, 1976. Under Dr. Hamilton’s leadership Elder Davis became a Deacon in 1978. He was a faithful, active and dedicated member of the Deacon Board until his health prevented him from serving in his full capacity. On August 19, 2007 Deacon Davis was elevated to the office of Elder along with two other Deacons. Here at Bethany he was one of the original members of Bethany Baptist Church Male Chorus where he sang to the glory of God.
Elder Davis was the first President of the 135th Street Block Association where he served well and was always willing to help in any area he could. Elder Davis wanted his neighborhood beautiful and safe for all of his neighbors. And he served the association until he could serve no more.
Elder Davis was employed by and retired from the United Food Corporation. He was Chef in his own right; he did excellent presentations and served dignitaries and celebrities with pride. During his time at United Food, he was instrumental in assisting other young people to become gainfully employed.
Elder Walter Davis Jr. leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy his wife Dorothy, his three daughters Trollenger Ruth, Mamie Frances and Mary Linda. Sister-in-law Mary Alice McConner of Baltimore, MD; two brother-in-laws Elisha and Albert White of Kingston, North Carolina and a son-in-law Kenneth White. Seven grandchildren; Troy, Tasha, Valerie, Kenneth Jr., Reginald, ViLinda and Barry. Nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
