Obituary for Jessica L. Weir

Jessica L. Weir
How can you possibly sum up someone's whole lifetime in multiple words in a few paragraphs on a single page? How do you describe the true essence of someone in mere words? This is not just a tribute to Jessica Lorraine Weir but an accounting of her life and how she lived it.

Jessica was the firstborn child and daughter to Alvin and Cecilia Weir and the older sibling of Steven Weir. Jessica lived and worked in Queens, New York, where she was born on March 10th, 1972. Jessica was a graduate of Springfield Gardens High School in Queens. She worked for John Hancock as a clerk for a short period, then following her passion and exceptional gift for fashion, she became a make-up artist for Avon, as well as Mary Kay Cosmetics for many years.

Jessica was uniquely adapt at styling hair, outfits and an artist with cosmetics. She had her own distinctive style that included her love of the color black. Deep and mysterious as her signature color, Jessica dressed herself with elegance, and sophisticated flair, as was evidenced every time she dressed for special occasions.

Jessica was inspired by her brother to try her hand at bar tending. So, she went on to receive professional training at the American Bartenders School, the number one Bartender training school in New York City and the oldest bar tending school in the country.

But soon Jessica, returning to her love of all things fashionable, acquired a position at Bath and Body Works at Green Acres Mall, assisting in making others look and smell good. This was closely followed by employment at Victoria’s Secret. Her most recent employment was at Danice as a Sales Associate.

At first sight Jess may have seemed quiet, shy and reserved, but once she warmed up to a person and they reciprocated her kindness, she could be as loud and boisterous as some of her family members. Also, once she counted you as a friend, she could talk to you for hours because then you were part of a privileged few and never again a stranger.

On any given night, when not working, or hanging out with friends, you could find her on the porch chilling or singing along with her favorite music. An avid reader, Jessica loved to delve into books that took her on different adventures. One adventure she particularly loved was vacationing in Aruba. She loved the sun and sand and the open skies. Visiting her grandmother’s home and reconnecting with family members was significant to her. She believed that happiness is treasuring your family. Jessica had faith that things could always get better. She was fanciful and imaginative on occasion, a dreamer, with her head in the clouds.

Introspective, she would spend hours writing, and especially relished playing pranks on her loved ones. Jessica liked a good laugh and could sometimes be seen (and heard) complaining passionately about an important topic to her, commenting on the issues of the day in the news or just acting silly and singing along (often off-key) to a tune with her beloved brother, Steven and dear cousin, Jennifer. One of her hobbies, was Karate, which she engaged in along with her brother.

Although, never married, Jessica was a great friend and confidante, loving cousin and sister, as well as a loyal, devoted daughter. Her genuine caring nature and kindness touched the hearts of everyone who came in contact with her. She was supportive, helpful and encouraging to friends and family alike. With a beautiful smile, gentle and compassionate ways, her heart was as big as the ocean she loved in Aruba.

Always gracious, ready to lend a hand, faithful, sympathetic and respectful to everyone she encountered. No one who knew Jessica can say that she will not be sorely missed. On August 5th, 2015, Jessica’s journey with us was redirected and she went on to another path. When it is all said and done, Jessica enjoyed her life and valued her family and will always be loved and remembered for the beautiful soul she was.

Left to morn her loss and cherish her memories are her mother, Cecilia, her brother, Steven and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins in the US, Holland and Aruba.

We LOVE you so very much Jess, and this is not goodbye but farewell until we see you again. Rest in peace.

And as she would probably say to you all for attending today, thank you for your time.
