Obituary for Leatha R. Johnson

Ms. Leatha Ruth Johnson was born November 11, 1936 to Willie and Pearl Elizabeth Lytes Johnson in Leesville, South Carolina. She received her formal education through the Lexington County Public School System.

Sis. Johnson migrated to New York in 1958 and considered NY her new home. Over the years Sis. Johnson worked in various jobs and in 1985 she began working at Kuhn, Muller & Bazerman from which she retired in 2011. At an early age Sis. Johnson was a member of New Hope CME, the family’s church in Lexington, S.C. In 1981 she became a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of John B. Mason III. Upon becoming a member of Mount Zion, Sis Johnson became a faithful member of the Senior Usher Board. Sis. Johnson was also known to be an excellent seamstress as well as a wonderful cook. Her two-layer coconut pineapple cake and sauerkraut salad were always in demand.

In addition to her parents, Sis Johnson is preceded in death by two children - Alexis M. Breland and Laverne Maurice Johnson; two brothers – Nathaniel Johnson & Vergenus “Bo” Johnson; three sisters – Florence Lindsey Briggs, Adell Freeman, and Vernell Gainey.

She leaves to cherish precious memories four children: Theresa “Terry” Brunson, Dierdre “Dee Dee” Johnson, Sidney M. Johnson and Tina Littlejohn and one son-in-law Delroy Littlejohn; two sisters – Lavata Baker & Violetta Johnson; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild as well a host of nieces; nephews, relatives and friends.
