Obituary for Olivia Patten

Olivia Patten
Olivia Hill was born September 28, 1936 in Charlottesville, Virginia to the late Adrian and Marjorie Jackson. She moved in her teen years to New York where she attended and graduated from Tarrytown High School.

As a young woman, she married her first love, Robert Harper, Jr and to this union a lovely daughter, Sharon Harper was born. In 1958 she entered into the bonds of matrimony once again to Olen Hill. Her son, Olen N. Hill was born during this marriage.

Through the years Olivia was always goal-oriented, diligent and had an above average work ethic. She enjoyed an extremely prominent work relationship with RadioFree Europe/Radio Liberty, Inc for many years in Manhattan and relocated to Maryland to continue with them when they moved the business to Washington , DC.

At this point in her life she purchased a home in Maryland and settled into community life. She began to pursue other passions and goals that interested her. She took an active role in several organizations and explored additional dreams. She joined a cooking club and became a gourmet cook. She'd always had a love for dancing so she took lessons, practiced hard and became quite the accomplished ballroom dancer. She loved dancing and continued to enjoy her passion for dancing well pass her retirement years until she became ill and could no longer glide smoothly across the dance floor.

Upon retiring in 2008, she felt a strong urge to be closer in geography to her children so she returned to New York. Not long after her return her health began to fail and she began the courageous fight for good health. It was fortunate that her life's decision had brought her home to them; for they lovingly cared for her during this difficult time.

She was steadfast and fought the good fight, but her Lord and Savior called her home to glory on November 21, 2015.

Olivia leaves to cherish her memory; her daughter, Sharon Harper-Figueroa, her son, Olen N. Hill, her grandson, Javon J. Figueroa, great-granddaughter, Lani Figueroa, sister-in-law, Susie Wooten, brother-in-law, Larry Hill, special cousins, Tonya and Shanti Freedman, Sylvia Lane, Julie Lane-Hailey, Nicky Lane Hill and a host of other relatives and close friends.

We held her very dear and although she no longer walks this earthly path with us, the memories we made together will forever be held close to our hearts.
