Elizabeth Ann Hawkins was born to Lula Mae Camp on September 13, 1941 in Cliffside, North Carolina. She was the older of two children. “Liz”, as she was affectionately known, attended elementary and middle school in North Carolina. She was baptized at an early age and sang with the choir. She then moved to New York where she earned her High School diploma from August Martin HS.
Liz married the love of her life, Ernest Hawkins, on September 18, 1964. In 2015, they celebrated 51 wonderful years of marriage. Liz worked at a sign manufacturing company in Jamaica, NY for 15 years before devoting herself full time as homemaker. Although, she had no children of her own, she nurtured and mothered two special young ladies - Tanajia Hayes and Jasmine Shaw.
Liz was known for talking, earning the name of Chatty Cathy. She loved to cook and her specialties were potato salad and string beans. She enjoyed completing puzzles and playing BINGO. She was also known for playing and winning ‘triple 2s’.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a devoted husband, Ernest; one sister, Christine; three special young ladies, Tanajia, Jasmine and 4 year old Alahni; one brother-in-law, Jesse; seven sisters-in law, Donella, Wilma, Dolores, Janet, Ruth, Vivian, and Geraldine; one aunt, Lillian; numerous nieces and nephews - and a host of other relatives and friends.
