Obituary for Vivian E Folsom

Safe in the arms of our almighty God, Virginia quietly and peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday July 28, 2016. God released her from pain and suffering to enter into a realm of peace and joy.

Vivian was born on April 18, 1947 in West Palm Beach, Florida to her proud parents, the late Marilyn P. Carroll and Willie Stroman. She has three brothers and 2 sisters. She is the first of her siblings to transition.

Vivian graduated from Roosevelt High School in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Vivian joined Bethany Baptist Church of Jamaica at an early age. She served as a faithful and dedicated member of the Gospel Chorus and always sung on the Women’s Day Choir, usually as the director. She shared her love of music with the Rev. Del Shield of the Zion Gospel Church and Rev. Dr. Calvin Rice and The New Jerusalem Worship Center in the sound room whenever she was available.

Vivian’s career was at New York Telephone now Verizon for over 44 years, the majority of those years she spent in Engineering as an Engineering Drafter before she finally retired.

Virginia was very devoted to her family and she enjoyed praising God first and foremost in song. You needed to know a song or an artist of any gospel song, just asked Vivian she knew the tune, the sections and the words. Music was her passion. She was an avid reader and her son said she loved to sew because she made some of his clothes back in the day. Vivian was also the neighborhood babysitter, she loved children and was always willing to look out for the children and made sure they were well taken care of and kept them out of trouble. She maintained her faith in God and her Savior Jesus Christ throughout her life and illness.

Vivian was kind, loving and giving. She would extend a helping hand to anyone.

Vivian leaves to cherish her memory, her only child a son; Alvoyd Folsom, and she also has two very devoted and special loving Goddaughters; Gwendolyn and Kayla Nalls and brother; John Stroman, sister; Diane Jackson, brother; Willie Edward Davis, sister; Audrey Gibson, brother; Leonard Gibson. (1) Grandchild; Lamaro Campbell, an Aunt Mary Cleare, Cousin Rev. James Cleare. A special thank you to her devoted neighbors who was always at her side.
