Irene, a little baby girl born to Thomas J. Lark and Eleanor Lark on July 11, 1941, was the second child of five. She was christened as an infant and gave her life to Christ and baptized at age 10 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the auspices of Rev.John Henry Jackson. She was a member of the Usher Board and the Mason Ensemble. She attended elementary and high school in Jamaica Queens, NY. After graduating, she went to work for the City of New York. Later Irene decided to go back to school and enrolled in college at Vanderbilt School of Art and Fordham University. After 15 years of service with the city she became ill and had to retire. Having to retire was devastating for her. However, it did not stop her. A year later she decided to open a nursery school called “Lovebug”. She taught the children math, phonics and literature. She also took the children on outings locally and also on trips outside of the state. The children loved her. After a number of years passed she became unable to function as an administrator and had to relinquish her service. The parents were very disappointed that their children had to leave Lovebug Nursery School because the children progressed in their learning.
In 1995, Irene decided to move to Virginia where she enjoyed the quality of life. She then became a member of Highview Park Christian Assembly under Bishop Phillip Thomas. Irene was a faithful member until she was unable to attend. After a long illness our Father in Heaven called her home on Sunday morning September 11, 2016. Irene loved our God with all her heart, read his word faithfully until she could no longer do so.
Irene leaves to mourn, Cassandra Tucker and Marlon Rapley whom she raised; two sisters Nora Lark and Barbara Deyoung-Ezell; three aunts, Gladys Weaver, Irene Burt and Lola Simpkins; one uncle, Eddie Simpkins; three adopted grandchildren, Seletha Tucker, Shandell Henry and LeVern Adams, II.
