Obituary for Reitte Porter

Reitte Porter
Reitte Porter was born to the late Herman Porter Sr. and Henrietta Porter on December 12, 1950, in Savannah, Georgia. She was the second of six children.

Reitte attended New York City Public Schools. She graduated from Richmond Hill School and attended Hunter College majoring in nursing.

Reitte worked at the New York State Department Of Labor. She later transferred to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles where she worked until retirement in 2009.

Reitte accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized in 1987 at Amity Baptist Church, in Jamaica, New York by the late Rev. Dwight M. Jackson. She faithfully served as a member of the Arts, Heritage and Culture Forum, the Liturgical Dance Ministry, the Women’s Ministry and Human Service Commission Summer Exposure Program.

Reitte volunteered as an Auxillary Police Officer at the 103rd Precinct and the 103rf Precinct Community Affairs Council. Her other hobbies included gardening, theatre, aquacise and she loved to travel especially “cruising”. She was also known for her potato salad and sweet potato pies.

She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her maternal instinct extended to others.

Reitte was preceded in death by two siblings, Herman Porter Jr. and Lorraine Porter.

Reitte leaves to cherish her precious memories: daughter, Daniell, grandson Darien, granddaughter Jailyn, sisters Elnora and Sandra, brother Barry, sister in law Marina, aunts Leola Jenkins, Juanita Ford, Rebecca Gadsden and Patricia Williams of Savannah, GA nieces Charlene and Michelle, nephew Archie, cousins, other sisters, church family and friends.

She had a special place in her heart for Ron Beckett, Chavon James, Sharema Valentine and Michael Spivey.

Prayerfully submitted by the family.
