Obituary for Benny Chambers

Benny   Chambers
B enny Chambers was born April 9, 1939 in Chesterfield South Carolina. He is the son of the late Hattip,,Morris and the late Thornel Blue.

He was educated in the Cheraw public school system. As a child growing up. he was a member of the Methodist church.

In 1959, when he turned 21, he moved to NYC. Shortly after he relocated to NYC, he was drafted into the United States Army. After an honorable discharge, he worked various jobs, including bus driver for the Hempstead Bus Company. In 1971, he began his career as a conductor for the NYC Transit Authority. Due to illness, he was forced to retire in his 20th year.

On May 19, 1962, he married Florine Tate, who he called Dot. Two children were born out of this union, Benjamin and Lisa. They were married for 53 years.

Before his illness, Benny was an avid bowler. He earned numerous trophies and certificates for bowling. He loved football, basketball and baseball. He enjoyed a good game. He could talk about sports and cars all day.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Florine Chambers. 2 children, Benjamin Chambers and Lisa Chambers. 1 granddaughter, Tanaya Chambers, 3 great grandchildren, who brought lots of joy into his life, Kimaya, Kayla and Kaleb. 3 sisters, Odell( John) Key and 2 sisters who both proceeded him in death Ethel Jean Chambers and Hattie Neil Floyd. 1 aunt Emma Campbell. 4 sisters in law, Marion Tate, Queen Tate, Leola Tate and Margaret Ann Tate. 1 brother in law Lindsey Tate. His buddy Spencer McCall, who he called his other son. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
