Obituary for Mary Waugh

Mary Waugh
Mary Waugh, beloved daughter of the late Joe and Mable Cheese, sister to the late Annabelle Cheese, Warren Cheese, Raymond Cheese, Walton Cheese, Louis Cheese, Lolie Green, Rosina Cheese, Dorothy Waters and Janette Jones. Mary was born on June 17, 1946, in Jamaica Queens, New York.

She departed from us on December 6, 2016. Mary was the eighth of eleven children. She was raised in Jamaica, Queens, New York.

Mary attended Sunday school and church services at Mount Zion Baptist Church, in Jamaica, New York. In her early teen years Mary accepted God and was baptized. She attended Public School 50, Shimer Junior High School and graduated from Queens Vocational High School Cooperative Program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

On September 16th 1967, Mary married Henry V. Waugh. From this beautiful union they had four beautiful kids: Tameka, Kent, Jason and Andrea the daughter of Henry V. Waugh.
Mary worked for a few years at Lenox Hill Hospital as a Nurse. After leaving Lenox Hill Hospital she seeked employment at Group Health Insurance as a Claims Approval. Thereafter she worked at 1199 as an Administrative Manager before retiring.

Mary was a caring and loving person who always made sure her family had what they needed and wanted. Her unselfish disposition made her a great person to be around which made for a true friend at all times. Mary loved conversation and politics. She always encouraged her grandchildren to take an interest in current events. She always looked forward to getting together with family. Mary was full of laughter and enjoyed making jokes with her grandkids, she loved taking rides and seeing what was new whether it was in the neighborhood or stores. One of her favorite T.V. shows was The Voice, she made sure to watch it every week and put in her vote for each contestant on her phone. She loved to sing with her grandkids to Beyoncé’s songs, sometimes playing the same song over and over again. In her later days, Mary enjoyed going to Atlantic City, using this opportunity to take her family on weekend getaways. Her family particularly enjoyed her Mac and Cheese with Ham on top, Baked Basil Chicken, and her smothered pork chops, and she would make sure to call her family over to join her for dinner. Mary was very independent both physically and mentally which made her a strong woman.

She leaves to mourn: her children, Tameka Fuller, Kent Waugh, Jason Waugh and step-daughter Andrea (Yvette) Caldwell that was raised and loved as a daughter of her own. Her grandchildren Tariq Caldwell, DeVante McKoy, Jayleen Waugh, Jada Waugh, Yasmeen (Sara) Waugh, Elijah Waugh, Marissa Fuller and Alexa Waugh; a great-granddaughter; a sister Christina Cheese-Limes and a niece raised as a sister Linda Lubasvka; two son-in-law’s Bryan Caldwell and Maurice Fuller; two daughter-in-law’s Beni Waugh and Laura Waugh; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
