Obituary for Annie Nell Smith

Annie Smith, 100, entered Heaven’s gates on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Queens Hospital Center.

Born September 11, 1916, in Thompson, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Will and Daisy Thomas.

Ann Nell relocated to New York in September 1916 with her children. A superb mother and homemaker, she was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for family and friends. She was so giving by nature, that she dedicated herself to being a homemaker for a number years. She lived unselfishly, and did not hesitate to give you her last dime if she thought it would alleviate your hardship. Family consider her as a Holistic doctor before the term was invited. She could provide you with a treatment for any ailment and dress a wound with fatback to avoid infection. In addition, she was designated the family historian and had an extensive memory of all who came before her. She could tell you stories of her grand uncle whom was born into slavery or her grandmother born the third year of freedom. Ann Nell has touched so many lives during the century she we were blessed to have her. She will truly be missed by all but never forgotten.
