Willie M.  Wright
Willie Meaner Wright was born in Thompson, Georgia on July 4, 1925. She was the seventh of eight siblings, from the union of Will Thomas, and Daisy Marshall, both parents are deceased.

While finally returning home, after a lengthy absence, Willie succumbed to her eternal reward on January 11, 2017.

Willie education consisted of her attendance at the Richard S. Carroll grade school, located in Bamberg, South Carolina,

She wed the late Leal Charles Wright, on July 5, 1947 in the county of Bamberg, South Carolina. Soon after that ceremony, the couple migrated to New York City. From that marriage the produced the offspring of Barbara, Gregory (deceased), and Herman.

Willie was always a product of the church. Baptized in 1940 at the Thankful Baptist Church, Bamberg, S.C. upon her residency in N.Y.C., she joined the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in Corona. She would later unite with the St. Johns Baptist Church in Jamaica in the early 1970’s until her transition.

Willie was always gainfully employed in New York City. She started her career at the Aurora Plastic Company of West Hempstead, New York in the 1960’s. When the company relocated, Willie was able to secure employment at the Standard Motor Products, Inc., in Long Island City, N.Y. as a parts checker, during the later 1070’s, and 1980’s. Finally employed at the Opsales / Lenservice, Inc., Island Park, N.Y. as a supervisor, until she retired in 1992.

Willie was always active, and involved individual member of the South Jamaica Tenants Organization for over thirty years. A founding member of the Friends of King’s Park, an advocacy group, which is part of the NYC Parks Department. She was also the girl scout leader for many years at the old corner of 160th street, and South Road.

Our beloved Willie will be cherished by: a devoted daughter Barbara, son Herman Wright of Syrace, N.Y., brother Vernon Thomas of Pasadena Maryland, sister-in-law Shirley Thomas (Vernon’s Wife) a fantastic sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Ann Williams of Winston Salem, S.C., twenty five grands, and great grands. She was a 7th generation aunt, with (2,000) nieces and nephews, also a host of friends. Those who proceeded her in death, the husband, a son, three grandchildren, and her eldest sister at age (100) in December 2016.
