Willie  Simmons, Sr.
Willie (Pop) Simmons Sr. was born on August 15, 1934 in Jasper County, South Carolina to the late Doley Simmons and Laura Grant-Simmons. Willie Simmons Sr. departed this life on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, New York.

He received his education in Jasper, South Carolina public school system. He moved to New York City in 1955. He married the love of his life Dorothy V. Simmons in May 1958. From this union, they were blessed with five children.

Willie worked in the distribution field and drove cabs for many many years. He had a passion for fishing, he would often take the grandkids on fishing trips. He also loved hunting, playing the guitar, listening to the blues and not to mention, the backyard barbeques with the family.

He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Dorothy, two sisters, Martha Green and Alma Johnson, and four brothers, Gus Simmons, Clarence (Jackson) Simmons, Joe Simmons, and Luther Simmons.

Willie leaves to mourn four daughters, Cathy Guinyard, Carol Simmons, Gwen Latson, and Saundra Martin, one son, Willie Simmons Jr., three sons-in-laws, William Guinyard, Eric Latson Sr., and Leonard Martin, eight grandchildren, Quanisha, Taniqua, Eric Jr., Treavon, Steven Jr., Shakeil, Zhakeya, and Isaiah, four great-grands, Markese Jr., Alina, Tori, and Harlem, four sisters-in-laws, Rovenia Simmons (Point South, S.C.), Irene King (Manhattan), Margaret Simmons (Manhattan), and Drucilla Riley (Manhattan), two brothers-in-laws, Rufus Mungin (Manhattan), and Jimmy Mungin (Point South, S.C.). A host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
