Obituary for Edith Ruiz

Edith Ruiz
Edith Ruiz was born on June 3, 1928 to the late Edith Elizabeth Montier and Roslyn LaRue Carter. She was one of five children.

She grew up in Lewistown, PA. Edith lost her parents at very young age. Edith was then raised by her brothers. She would come home from school and find her dinner cold and clumpy in a pot waiting for her; that’s where her passion for cooking began. She visited the ladies across the road, where she watched and learned how to cook. She later on perfected her cooking with her own style.

At the age of 26, she moved to Brooklyn, NY where Edith and her husband Felix Ruiz raised their five children, living in Farragot projects. She cooked for anyone that would stop by. Her door was always open and the smell of fried chicken filled the air throughout the building. She received many knocks on the door from neighbors asking for “just one piece.”

In 1977, Edith and Felix purchased their first home. She cooked for her family all day long; breakfast made special for each family member, dinner to appease everyone’s appetite.

She would always cook anything any of her children or grandchildren and their friends desired. Edith loved to go food shopping; it was actually her favorite thing to do. Edith loved to sit on the porch of her home on 137-36 159th Street.

In 2005, she moved to Huntington, NY with her grandson, Christopher Charles Lloyd to enjoy his first home along with her daughter, Deidre Nadine, Victor Strong, Anthony Terrell, Damion Strong and Chloe Lloyd. She enjoyed eleven great years of cooking and cooking and cooking; all while watching Judge Judy. She was visited by all of her grand children and great grandchildren frequently. Whenever they would visit, Edith cooked a feast. She would make special dishes for all of Christopher’s and Anthony’s friends as well. Whenever she could, her grandson Daniel Paul Ruiz, would pick her up and take her to visit with him, and his children, Anissa and Daniel Joseph, in his home in Jamaica, Queens.

In 2016, Edith decided it was time to travel and see all of her children and grandchildren, which she did. Edith traveled to Virginia to spend time with Marcy Lynn and her family, and then onto Georgia to spend time with Felix Charles and his family. She then ended her travels to live with her eldest daughter, Ana-Rene in Hemet, California to enjoy Rene’s new home. Edith and Ana-Rene were able to enjoy some of the things they loved to do together, like Bingo. Edith was very happy. She died peacefully on February 12th 2017 in Hemet, CA.

Edith will forever be remembered by her surviving children: Ana-Rene, Felix Charles, Deidra Nadine, and Marcy Lynn, 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grand children. She joins her husband Felix, her son Russell, three brothers and one sister: Charles, Russell, Ira and Anna-Bertha in heaven. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, all the children she baby-sat, as well as other family members and friends.
