Obituary for Johnnie Nicholson

Johnnie Nicholson
Johnnie Nicholson, 67, died Saturday, February 25th at the Brooklyn VA Hospital surrounded by his family.

Johnnie was born and raised in Queens and was a graduate of Newtown High School. Shortly after graduating from high school he joined the Army and served during the Vietnam War. After service in the Army, he came back to New York and married the love of his life, Dorothy.

Johnnie was a postal worker for over 20 years and an avid fisherman. He loved helping others and would go out of his way for anyone. Aside from being a father to his children, he also extended that same love and care to everyone in the neighborhood and beyond. If anyone needed help with literally anything, Johnnie would be the first they called. Throughout his life he gained skills in different fields that made him a “Jack of All Trades”. On any given day you could find him under a car, patching a wall or fixing someone’s bike.

In 2014 Johnnie faithfully began attending Christian Word Fellowship. While serving under the late pastor Alvin Dawkins and current pastor Sena Dawkins, he made the choice to give his life to Christ. For that alone we must rejoice and celebrate his life.

He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Mae Nicholson; his four children, Johnnie Jr, Patrice (Marion) Wolfe, Matthew and Michael; his grandchildren, Shyla, Mihki, Leonni, Marion Jr., Marcus and Maliah; his mother, Hattie Ryans; his sisters, Irene, Pearl, and Ann; his 6 nieces and 5 nephews; his Christian Word Fellowship family and many close family and friends.
