Obituary for Marjorie Childers

Marjorie Childers
Safe in the arms of our almighty God, Marjorie quietly and peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 16, 2017. God released her from pain and suffering to enter into a realm of peace and joy.
Marjorie was born on April 12, 1930 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania to her proud parents, the late Ernest and Precious Adams. She was the third of four (4) daughters, two of who preceded her in death; Nadine Gross and Ernestine Jordan.
Her parents moved to Manhasset, New York and finally settled in Jamaica, New York. Marjorie was educated in the New York City School System. She attended and graduated from PS116 and JHS40. Marjorie always wanted to be a nurse but was told she was too short so she attended Central Needle Trade High School.
Marjorie met the love of her life Gaston Childers at the age of 14. They were united in holy matrimony on May 6, 1951 and to this union two (2) children were born. A son Anthony Arthur (deceased) and a daughter Wanda Milliner. They were married for 48 years.
Marjorie’s passion was taking care of people. Her desire was to become a nurse, she never gave up hope. At the tender age of 35 her husband sent her to school and she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Marjorie and Gaston lived on the corner of 120th Avenue and Springfield Boulevard for many years. Marjorie would look out for the children as they changed buses and was always watching out and taking care of the neighbors in the community.
Deacon Gaston Childers was the chairman of the Deacon Board when he passed in 1999. Marjorie was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and she was active with the Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry until her health did not allow her to come out and assist.
Marjorie leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved daughter Wanda, sister Alma Butler, Four (4) grandchildren; Monique & Jamal Wilkerson, Sean & Cory Milliner; four (4) great grandchildren; Cory, Zayn, Zuri and Ciara; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Gone but not forgotten.
