Mavis Mills was born on October 12, 1939 to Ruby Phipps and George Harris in St. Andrew, Jamaica and was the eldest of eight children. She married David Mills in 1958 and the union created five beautiful children: Paul, Delroy, Jacqueline, Karen, and Jennifer. Even though she gave birth to five children, she was really the mother of six, as she was much more than a grandmother to Shawn, one of 13 grandchildren. Mavis also leaves behind 14 great grandchildren.

Mavis was quiet, reserved, but the epitome of a strong and independent woman. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, a person you could always depend on, constantly supporting her children and grandchildren no matter what. She was kind and loving and an extremely generous person, who would sacrifice anything for the sake of her family. She was their rock and they were her life. Mavis is with us today in our hearts. Words can't express how much she meant to all of us. We know she is watching us and is with us in spirit.
