Obituary for Charles E. "Chuck and Charlie" Dixon Sr.

Charles E. "Chuck and Charlie" Dixon Sr.
Charles E. Dixon Sr., known to his friends as “Chuck” and “Charlie”, was born to William Dixon and Mallie Witchard Dixon in the city of Greenville, in Pitt County, North Carolina on March 12th, 1925. He attended Epps High School until his induction into the U.S. Air Force in 1943, to serve in World War II. He was stationed throughout the European theatre until the war’s end in 1945. Upon his return home from the service he decided to attend college at North Carolina A&T State University. This is where he met Clyde Lois Marshall, who he eventually married. Together they moved to New York City to begin their life together. From this union came the birth of two children, Charles E. Dixon, Jr. and Sybrina Tysia Dixon. He moved his family from Brooklyn to Queens N.Y. in 1962. During these years he worked in the Brooklyn Naval Shipyards until its closing and then worked in the U.S. Department of Agriculture until his retirement in 1985.

He enjoyed his retirement for thirty two years. He traveled the Caribbean, rarely missed his college and High School reunions and took pleasure in doing carpentry work as a side job. Charlie enjoyed sharing laughs with family and friends and he lived his life to the fullest. He lived it “his way”, no matter what anyone else had to say.

His sister and brother, Catherine Dixon and William Dixon are deceased, but he is survived by his children Charles Jr., Sybrina, and son-in law, William Richardson, Jr., his grandchildren, Shakara and Brent Richardson, his niece Shelia Chasten and grand nieces Samandra Dixon and Crystal Northern, and their children and a host of friends. “Charlie” will be truly missed……
