Obituary for Warren Phillip "Nicky" James

Warren Phillip "Nicky" James
Warren Phillip James, affectionately known as Nicky, was born October 7, 1954, to Ruby and Thomas James, in Brooklyn New York. Warren graduated from the NYC public school system. When Torra James Williams was born, Warren knew then that he needed a good trade to support his daughter, and enrolled in automotive school to become a mechanic. Once Nicky graduated, he began fixing cars everywhere; from the shop to the driveway. Throughout the course of his life, Warren held various jobs: working at the Public Library for many years and in latter years was employed by the Department of Sanitation, from which he retired in 2001.

Warren was a man of many interests. He loved to draw and was great at math. He also played the drums, guitar and piano. He could write music and play by ear. He loved playing music throughout the house and could be heard playing outside in the street. He performed with a couple of bands, one of which was the Bartlett Contemporary Band. His love of music brought out the best in him, it made his personality shine. He wanted all the youngsters in the family to be musically inclined and attempted to teach them an instrument, whether they wanted to learn it or not. He was very proud of daughter Torra’s singing career and of all her accomplishments. Nicky always encouraged her to master the art of music. Nicky loved to be out and about having a good time. He had many friends whom he kept in contact with over the years.

Warren was called home to rest on July 13, 2017. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Claude, and his loving parents Ruby and Tommy. He leaves to cherish his memory: Yvonne Wilder his loving mate of many years; who always extended her support and unconditional love, daughter Torra James Williams, sisters Regina and Rosemary, brothers-in-law Wayne and James, son-in-law Clive Williams, aunt Deborah (Debbie) James, grandchildren: Malique, Malysse, and Mikhi, 13 nieces and nephews: Calvin, Quana, Latosha, Adrienne, Benjamin Jr, Hadiya(DeeDee), James, Mustafa (Waynie), Ryan, Patrick, Eric, Shaquana and Shaquan. Also Artie Jefferies Wilder, who was like a brother and a host of great nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
