Obituary for Verlee H Sims

Verlee H Sims
Verlee Hunter Sims, was born March 25, 1935 in Laurens County South Carolina to the late Pink and Conia Hunter. She was the baby-girl of twenty-one children.
Verlee attended elementary school In Laurens County, and graduated from Sanders High School in Laurence South Carolina. She met and married Fred Lee Sims in 1955 and shortly thereafter he was called to duty, and served in the army in Germany. Verlee and their son Freddie Lee Sims Jr. joined him in Germany where they lived for a period of time. After his tour of duty they relocated to Queens New York, where their family continued to grow, being blessed with twin girls Felice and Vernice Sims.
At an early age Verlee gave her life to Christ. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church for over 45 years. She was a faithful and dedicated member until her health failed and she was unable to attend. She loved her church and her church family.
In the early 1960’s Verlee began her career as a Nurse Assistant at Physicians Hospital in Queens New York. She brought peace and hope to her patients. Verlee was a great listener and care giver; not only to the patients in her care but also to their families. She always maintained a professional demeanor which gained her much respect from her colleagues. Verlee was always selected to train new employees, ensuring that they gave the same excellent care that she provided; that same spirit poured into her community. Verlee later went on to work at Deepdale Hospital where her professionalism continued until her retirement in early 1993. After her retirement she took the role of Grandma Sims feeding every kid in the neighborhood and loving every moment of it. She instilled family values in the many people she met throughout her life.
On Saturday, September 23, 2017, the Lord called her home while her family stood by her side.
She was predeceased by her son, Freddie Lee Jr. (2001) .
