Bernard Hamlett Jr. was born on April 25, 1932 to the late Lillian Martin and Bernard Hamlett in Cullen Virginia. He was the oldest of three children. The Lord called him home on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the St. Albans Veteran Hospital, St. Albans, New York.

Bernard attended and graduated from Taro Public School in Charlotte County, Virginia. After graduation, Bernard enlisted into the United States Army and served with distinction and was honorably discharged in 1960. He migrated to New York where he met and married the love of his life Fannie Crump. To this union two children were born, Bernard and Cheryl.

Bernard’s passion was cars. His car was always shined, never any dirt or dust on his car. He also loved playing cards, dancing, traveling and dressing to the nine. Everything must match from head to toe. He enjoyed living life to the fullest.

Bernard retired from Kennedy Airport after many years as a Skycap and baggage handler.


He leaves to cherish his memory wife Fannie, one son Bernard (Edwina) and one daughter Cheryl. One brother, Donald Martin of Victoria Virginia; One sister, Jane Ghee of Farmville, Virginia. He has three grandchildren, Latoya, Terrell and Alexis. Two Great Grandchildren, Nayshon and Kailey. One brother-in-law, John Ghee. Three nephews Jonathan Ghee, Julian Ghee and Steven Martin. One Grandnephew, Julian Ghee Jr. And a host of other family and friends.

Gone but never forgotten.
