Obituary for Grady Harris Isaac

Grady H. Isaac was born on March 5, 1906 in Swainsboro, Georgia. Ms. Isaac left Swainsboro and migrated at the age of 13 to Chicago, Illinois. In 1919, Ms. Isaac took night classes and completed her high school diploma. While in Chicago, she met and married Mr. Joshua Johnson in 1925. Ms. Isaac had two sons, Marcus and Clarence and one daughter Dorothy.

When her marriage ended with Mr. Johnson, Ms. Isaac moved to Harlem, New York in 1934. While living in New York to further her education and improve her skills, Ms Harris took typing, stenography as well as court reporting courses, receiving a certification as a United States Court Reporter.

Ms. Isaac moved from Harlem to Jamaica, New York where she met and married Mr. Willie Isaac, a United States Veteran in 1948. Ms. Isaac had an astonishing career starting out as a United States Court Reporter and retiring from the Pentagon as an Executive Secretary.

Ms. Isaac proved herself to be a savvy business woman. During her lifetime, she was able to purchase a number of properties, learn and invest in the stock market and achieve the type of success that is known to be rare in her time for an African American woman. Her accomplishments have been a blessing to us all.

Ms. Isaac was admired and adored by those that knew her. Although she was known to be a firm and direct woman, all who came in contact with Ms. Isaac can all say she left a lasting impression.

On March 5, 2006, Grady H. Isaac reached the age of 100 years old, of sound mind and body. Her longevity was contributed from a box of dates a day, a gallon of milk every 3 days and plenty of walking. She celebrated her birthday at the United House of Prayer and the Harvest Room. Local Politician's attended to help commemorate her 100th birthday. Grady H. Isaac also received a congratulatory letter from President George W. Bush.

On November 4, 2008, Grady H. Isaac was able to vote for the first African American President of the United States, Barack Obama. Of courses, she went to the head of the line because she was 102 years old at the time, with a standing ovation. Grady made peace with her Savior. She was a member of the United House of Prayer for the People for 47 years.

Ms. Isaac goes from labor to reward to join her beloved husband Willie Isaac; children Marcus, Clarence and Dorothy; grandchildren Stanley and Ronald and siblings Aida, Robert and Cora. She leaves to cherish fond memories; one daughter-in-law Martha Harris; twelve grandchildren Donald, Mark, Jabal, Phillip, Renee, Gail, Rodney, Paul, Kevin, Maurice, Kim and Cheryl along with a host of other relatives, friends and church members.

Grady H. Isaac was our family matriarch. She was loved and will sorely missed. She lived a long and successful life. Grandma Grady is resting peacefully in Heaven.
