Marie Mason was 92 when she passed away on December 1, 2017, in Jamaica, New York. And even though she has lived a very long and full life, it’s hard to say goodbye to a mother. We are very lucky to have had her so long. While we know that she is at peace and there will be no more tears and no more sorrow, we are still saddened by her loss. She has left the legacy of love and perseverance.
Marie Mason was born in Aiken, South Carolina, she moved to New York in 1947. She is predeceased by her mother and father Agnes and Rudolph Mason, four sisters; Viola Farlow, Sadie Mason, Margie Mason, Willimae Davis, and three brothers; Vincent Mason, Lucius Mason, and Victor Mason. Mom is survived by her four children; Moseanne Alexander, Maria Matthew, Leatha Smith Easley, and Dan Swearinger, and her sister, Ruby Johnson of Richmond, VA. five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
Mom’s role as mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was the most important thing to her. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy. Being with her family was what mom enjoyed most of all. Her life had many obstacles, but she persevered through it all, her love and caring for her family remained her focus. Perseverance through adversity is a powerful lesson for us, and it was her legacy for us. What a wonderful lesson she gave us, to keep our priorities straight, and keep that which is most important in focus; love and care for your family and to always remind them of how much you love them.
