We gather here today to reflect on the life of Shelly Ann Findlay. Born in Linstead Jamaica on August 30th 1977 to Dalton Findlay and Jennifer Rouldson. Most of her earlier childhood was spent among families such has grandparents, cousin, aunts & uncles. The fond memories of childhood plays and laughter will forever remain amoungst families she left behind. As a younger child, Shelly was considered playful, kind and a lover of food, where she inevitably adopted the nickname "little Rice".
In 1988 Shelly moved to kingston Jamaica to be with me, her sister, her brother Oshane Findlay, her Dad, and her stepmother Carmeleta Davidson, who welcomed and accepted her as her own. In kingston, she easily found new friends and became an oustanding member at the Roosevelt Seventh Day Adventist church. She was a member of the choir and Pathfinder club. Friends considered her to be full of life, energy and had a special talent to connect with others.
Shelly Ann took pride in complimenting others and represented the symbol of pure human kindness. She attended St Jago High school, were she displayed academics excellence. She was always brilliant, intelligent, smart and considered a fast learner.
My sister enjoyed reading, writing, and being amongst families and friends. She aspired to become a journalist. She also loved singing, which she constantly did ariound the house and in the shower. A fun evening at home for her, includes watching a good movie.
Over the years Shelly and I developed a relationship so intense that we were inseperable. I believe God has bought her into my life that left me with the most precious memories in my heart.
Shelly migrated to the united states in 1995 with her family. Here she completed her senior year in Flushing High school. Friends could not forget her beautiful sense of humor and her honesty. Shortly thereafter Shelly-Ann gave birth to the love of her life, her son, her baby, Chavar Collins. Shelly's intellegence, quick thinking and great problem solving skills easily landed her the jobs of her desire, such as Bank of America. Her final employment was with Gieco Insurance Company, where she was a claim Adjuster. This is where she spent most of her adult years. Shelly's mother migrated to the United States, where they reside together and kept a closeness until her final day.
Shelly-Ann Findlay leaves her son Chavar Collins, sisters, brother, father, mother, stepmother, nieces, nephew and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and grandmothers. Even though your life was shortly lived, you still left an amazing impact on our lives. May you rest in peace our lovely butterfly. You will forever remain in our hearts.
