Joyce Mae Billups, was a loving, caring and strong mother. She was a good friend too, who has passed away on May 6th, 2018 at the age 73. Joyce was born on May 14th, 1944 in Columbia, North Carolina to her deceased parents - Aldora Billups and Wallace Owens. She was raised by her maternal grandmother - Lucinda Billups along with her brother – Earl and Cousins- Howard Earl, James, and Arthur. At 17 years old, Joyce Billups migrated to the Bronx, NYC to finish school and live with her mother Aldora Billups - Gadson, Stepfather – Louis Gadson and siblings. Joyce completed high school from Morris High school in Bronx, class of 1962. She then started to work for Manufacture Hanover Bank as a teller. She also attended Queensborough Community College. She then continued to work as a secretary for varies companies such Gray Advertisement, Paine Webber and the Board of Education.
Later on in life, Joyce then met Manger Roberts in which whom she loved dearly. They had three wonderful children together – Pamela Roberts, Mangeral Roberts and Emangerel Roberts.
Joyce loved to laugh, crack jokes and watch lifetime movies on Sundays. She also loved to listen to the latest rap music, and always wanted the latest Hot 97 CD. She was a lot of fun to be around. She was very attentive, and caring. Joyce leaves to cherish his memories: her oldest daughter – Pamela Roberts, her sons “her boys” – Mangerel Roberts and Emangerel Roberts and her one and only granddaughter – Nyasia Roberts. She also leaves behind her sisters - Jeannette Gadson, Aldora Gadson, Sandra Gadson and brothers – Earl Beckwith, Louis Gadson, her nieces – Renisha Doshong, Felicia Gadson, her nephew – Marcus Smith, Jelani Carter and great nieces Zania and Madison. She also leaves behind her lifelong friendship of over 50 years with Martina Colon and her children – Michelle, Maria, Tonya and Joseph. She also leaves behind a host of friends, family members and those who loved her. Everyone wants her to know she was truly loved and will always be missed.
