Obituary for Lorraine E Conway

Lorraine E Conway
Lorraine E. Conway was born on July 7, 1933 in The Bronx, New York to Priscilla Hughes and Edward Newton and she transitioned on June 17, 2018. Lorraine was born in The Bronx and spent most of her formative years living in Brooklyn. Later she moved to Corona, Queens where she resided until her death. She met and married Henry Conway, and from that union came her sons, Stacy and Shelby Conway.
Lorraine attended Sarah J. Hale High School in Brooklyn, and later completed an intensive course of study in Fashion Design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Lorraine was naturally gifted as a designer and seamstress. She designed and sewed beautiful wedding gowns, men's clothing and she even created a children's clothing line which was modeled by her granddaughter Vanessa.
Lorraine secured employment at Radio City Music Hall, where she sewed many of the costumes worn by The Rockettes. She also worked at The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in Manhattan. Lorraine's love of fashion extended to modeling and assisting in the production of high end fashion shows. Her creativity was evident in her own unique and beautiful style of dress.
Lorraine touched the lives of many with whom she came into contact. Her beautiful face and smile, and her loving ways made her popular in her community. As part of her community activism, she became an active member of The Women's Club, which provided for social activities. Later she served as president of Sherwood Village Co-Op Board C. She held that position for many, many years.
Lorraine was spiritual and loved God. She participated in Mass on a weekly basis. Formally, she attended St. Paul's Church in Corona, and then St. Pascal Baylon Church in St. Albans until her death.
More than anything, Lorraine loved her family and friends and touched the lives of many. Those left to celebrate Lorraine's life include her sons Stacy and Shelby and his wife Tracey, her third son Harold Brown and his wife Veronica, her grandchildren Vanessa, Victoria, Curtis, Julisa, and Ava as well as her great granddaughter, Vivian, nieces Deborah King-Dorman and her husband Thomas, Marianna Johnson and her husband Oliver, and her very special cousin and the patriarch of her family, Austin Hughes.
She is also celebrated by a host of extended relatives, neighbors, and many dear friends.
