Obituary for Brenda Nelson

Brenda Nelson
Brenda Nelson was born to the late Iris and Neptune Nelson in Brooklyn, New York on November 2, 1956. Brenda was loved and cared for by her dedicated mother Iris. Her Grandparents the late Alfred and Fredricka Broadbelt also nurtured and greatly participated with her care in the early years of her life with devotion.

Her mother Iris went to be with the Lord on January 8th 1980 at the age of 51. Brenda was housed at St. Luke/Roosevelt Hospital for almost a year, then she was placed in the care of the Community Resource Center for the Developmentally Disabled Inc. This organization is affiliated with the United Cerebral Palsy Association. Community Resource Center provides care in residential facilities for the Developmentally Disabled.

The family of Brenda Nelson is ever so grateful and thankful for the care given to Brenda these last 38 years. The staff at the residence in Manhattan and the Bronx are the most dedicated, loving, caring, capable, trusting, patient, committed people you could ever encounter. We cannot thank them enough for a what they have done for her.

They encouraged her to be an independent thinker. Brenda had an uplifting and positive attitude. She was a loving person and had a wonderful sense of humor. She had a beautiful smile and contagious laughter. Her favorite color was red.

Despite her disability and not being able to verbally express herself, she communicated by blinking her eyes, guttural speech sounds and movement of her head when she was spoken to. When you looked into her eyes she would express displeasure or her joy'.
