Obituary for Norma S Neville

Print
Norma S. Neville was born to the late Douglas and Marion Shorts on August 17, 1934 in Washington DC. She was preceded in death by all siblings, Noel, Richard, Betty and William. Norma’s early years were spent in Washington DC with her grandparents Marion and Richard Albert Brown as well as her Aunt and Uncle Lucile and Clifford Wood. They were her fondest memories. However when Norma was 8 she returned to her parents and began her life with her family in the Bronx, New York. Norma was educated in both New York and Washington, DC, and graduated from Walton HS in the Bronx, with Honors.
Norma met and married the late Raymond Neville and from that union of over 50 years came two children, Douglas affectionately known at Joe Joe and Kelly-Monet. During their early marriage they resided on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx and then moved to South Ozone Park NY in 1972. !30th street became more than just her home. Her neighbors became a part of her family.
Norma was never shy to working and began her employment career early in life. She worked for 35 years with AT& T technologies, retiring in 1989. Then in 1995 worked at CUNY, York College as an admissions assistant until her second retirement in 2006.
Norma battled health issues all of her life. She would often say my life has been hard but it has been good and I have been blessed. For that reason when told of her diagnosis of terminal lung cancer her reply was “ok, what’s for lunch”.
However, on September 7, 2018 her battles were over. Ms. Norma was at peace. Norma leaves behind to cherish her sassy mouth and classy style her children Joe and Kelly, daughter in law Rosalind, son in law Derrick, her grandchildren, Derrick, Keith, Sierra, Falisha, Tanika, Taiyhen. Her Great Grandchildren, Nikai, Neyah, Nariah, and Kamyrn. Her sister/cousin/best friend Muriel Drew (Alvin). Her niece/goddaughter Norma Smith. Sister in Laws Carol Shorts and Carol Neville, 1st Cousins, Melvin, Oliver, and Anita. A Host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends too many too mention.

Life with Norma in it was truly wonderful
