We are gathered here today in the celebration of the homegoing for one of the Lord God Almighty’s most humble servants, Linwood Neverson. Mr. Neverson entered into eternal rest, Sunday, September 9th, 2018 at the NYU Winthrop Hospital, Mineola, New York.
Linwood was born on December 21, 1943 in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Booker T. Neverson and Lilly Threatt. Linwood was the sixth of 10 children.
In 1962, Linwood graduated from Peabody High School in Petersburg, VA During his high school years, Mr. Neverson was active in the Civil Rights Movement. He participated in sit-ins at the segregated lunch counters under the guidance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Wyatt T. Walker.
After graduation he traveled to Brooklyn, New York to reunite with his sisters and brothers. He acquired in first employment at Manhattan Dinette Company, where he was eventually promoted to manager of the company.
In 1963, Linwood Neverson married his high school sweetheart, Louise Kershaw. They were blessed with three children Sheron, Linwood, and Darryl.
Mr. Neverson always had an entrepreneur’s spirit. His business ventures lead to create Ultimate Enterprises. This included producing live shows, music promotions, an advertising company and a cab company.
In 1972, Linwood and Louise purchased a home in Uniondale, New York. After this relocation he was employed as a tool builder, research mechanic and millwright at Fairchild Republic in Farmingdale New York, a manufacture of military airplanes.
Mr. Neverson became a strong presence in the Uniondale community while participating in various organizations. He was President of Nostrand Gardens Civic Association for two terms. Under his tenure he produced and distributed a monthly newsletter. He was instrumental in creating three college scholarships per year and the “Life Every Hand and Create” youth art contest. He organized and delivered Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets.
After retiring from Fairchild Republic, Mr. Neverson’s entrepreneurial spirit lead him to open a variety store with his sisters and brothers, and become one of the most endearing vendors at Roosevelt Raceway, Aqueduct Raceway and Valley Stream Flea Markets. His loyal customers patronized his wares and cherished his words of wisdom and encouragement.
Linwood Neverson became a member of the Allen AME Church and joined the usher board. After an invitation and subsequent interview by Reverend Elaine Flake, he accepted the position of an Officer the Church.
Linwood was preceded in death by his father Booker T. Neverson, Sr. and mother Lilly Threatt; his brothers Bernard A. Neverson, Thomas L. Neverson and Jerome Neverson.
Linwood leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Louise Kershaw Neverson, his children; Sheron Lynne Neverson (Victor), Linwood DeWayne Neverson (Robin), and Darryl LaMar Neverson (Kamesha); five grandchildren: Khira, Jair, Niles, Noel, and Nigel and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings: Sadie Chandler (Henry) of Lantana FL, Bernice Neverson of Brooklyn, NY, Anne Denson (Denny) of Columbus, GA, Booker T. Neverson (Marie) of Petersburg, VA, Preston Neverson (Annette) of Coney Island NY and James Neverson (Doris) of Carrollton, GA.
