Obituary for Darren L. Warren

Print
Darren Lamont Warren was born to Lewis and Josephine Warren on September 24, 1966 in Elmhurst, New York. He was the older of two sons. He took flight on Saturday October 13, 2018. Darren was the light of their lives and a joy to their hearts. Darren attended PS 30 in Jamaica and graduated from Martin Van Buren High School in Queens Village, New York. Upon graduation from high school, Darren entered the Marine Corps, after his tour of duty he was honorably discharged but he wanted to continue to serve his country so he joins the Marine Reserves. Darren didn’t sit still after he left the Marines; he secured a position with Federal Express where he worked for 4 years. Darren joined New York Finest the New York City Police Department as a New York Police Officer. Darren served faithfully and retired after 10 years as a survivor of the 911 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

Darren began his Christian journey at the Bethany Baptist Church on January 18, 1981 and was baptized on January 27, 1981. Darren’s greatest heroes were his sons Tavaughn and Taheem. They were the love of his life. Darren loved Crab legs, the Giants, Ginger Ale, Popeye’s chicken and Jazz.

Darren was a great man; to know him is to only love him. His heart was as big as the ocean, his generosity to vast to mention, and his humor was infectious to everyone. He has this sneaky laugh about him that could only make you laugh with or you would cut your eyes at him wondering if he had a one liner right behind it! ONLY IN AMERICA… This was Darren’s famous line and he quoted it Daily! All who knew him knew this line and repeated it right along with him. ONLY IN AMERICA! You couldn’t pull anything over on him. He knew if you were telling the truth, or if you were lying through your teeth! He knew! And he’d let you know he knew! “ONLY IN AMERICA”

Darren leaves to cherish his memory and great legacy, parents, Josephine and Lewis, brother Derrick; sons Taheem and Tavaughn; their mother Ann Slythe and her children Trevor, Tamara and Tamieka, future daughters-in-law, Melyessa and Leiona; grandchildren Liam, Akari and Leionna, beloved nephew Kenneth Monroe and cousin Rashad Young who were both like brothers to Taheem and Tavaughn. Nieces and nephews Fajion, Ashley, Ariel & Jennie. And a continuous stream of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family too many to name.

Gone but never forgotten.
