Obituary for Owen Lee "Daddy Don" Thorpe

Owen Lee Thorpe, 70, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by his family Tuesday, May 2, 2017 after a long struggle with Cancer.

Owen was born and raised in Jamaica West Indies, the son of Wilfred and Miranda Thorpe.

In his early years, Owen played soccer on the road after school with his friends every day.

He attended Mount Horeb Primary school. He later moved on to Montego Bay High School where he graduated as a mechanic.

He met his wife Faye at the beach in Montego Bay, Jamaica in 1970. They soon fell in love and later went on to get married in 1983.

Owen had a passion for politics and sports, especially Basketball. He was in his element when he watched the New York Knicks. He was also the handy man for the family. He was always there to help family and friends with household projects or whatever else they needed him for.

He decided to change careers and went into the tourist industry as a tour operator. He did this for a number of years. He migrated to the United States with his family, where he worked at Long Island Jewish Nursing Home in Manhattan for 20 years, until he retired in 2014.

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Faye; his daughter Juliet, his son Danny, his daughter-in-law Andrea, his three grandchildren, RaShaid, Chantelle, and Judy-Kaye, his brothers Horace and Garfield, his sister Pansy, nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.
