Obituary for Sandra Rosa Simmons

Sandra Rosa Simmons was born on February 21, 1945 at Manhattan Hospital. Her parents were Dorothy Lee McKinney and William Leonard Beard. She graduated from Evander Childs High School in the Bronx in 1962.

Sandra enlisted in the Army in 1963 and served her time at Fort Myers, Virginia. Sandra left the Army in 1965. She married Shirley Simmons in 1965 and gave birth to her only child Windy May Simmons in May of 1966.

Sandra subsequently relocated to the Bronx in 1967 where she worked at the Bronx Veterans Administration until 1972. She moved to Laurelton, Queens with her family and transferred to St. Albans Naval Hospital where she retired after more than fifty-one years of government service in October 31st, 2014. Sandra also served in the Army Reserves for more than twenty years and retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant. She also attended Queens College later in life and received her B.A. in 2000.

Sandra was also an Ordained Minister for Ephesus Baptist Church and was a devoted Christian.

Sandra was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy Lee McKinney and her father William Leonard Beard. She is survived by her daughter Windy May Simmons, her brother Tyrone Terrence McKinney, her sister Sylvia Ashe, her grandson Joseph Adams Junior (T.J.) first cousin Betty Grey, cousin Dara and numerous other family members.
