Obituary for John O. "Pops" Pearson

John O. Pearson was born October 7th 1930 in Sumter, South Carolina to his late parents Willie and Ida Elizabeth Gibson Pearson.

He was baptized at Rock Hill Baptist Church on May 28th, 1951 by the late Rev. J. C. Clark. Upon him relocating to Brooklyn, NY he then became a dedicated member of the Bibleway Church and there held the title of Deacon. There he enjoyed singing and playing the piano.

John was then united in marriage to Annie Mae Knox on June 17th, 1952 and they shared four children. They later relocated to Queens, NY where they built a life together to raise their children. In 2004 their third child, the late Ward R. Pearson was called home as well as his wife Annie Mae in 2009, his great grandson Tevin Tucker in 2010 and then his late daughter Gwendolyn Ann Johnson to a 28-year battle with M.S in 2015.

John worked many years for the New York City Housing Authority and retired in 1998. He then worked part time driving limo’s and enjoyed gardening and spending time with family. He was an optimistic man with strong faith and family values.

On March 20th, 2019 John was called home peacefully in the comfort of his home at the blessed age of 88. John leaves behind his daughter Deloris Glenn in Piscataway, N.J., son John E. Pearson (Sonny) in Queens, NY, his grandchildren Charisse Tucker, Michelle Bossier, Trecell Johnson, Shatara Johnson, Ky’ree Pearson, his great grandchildren Ulysses Walls, Tamia Tucker, Demaris Owusu, Tyra Tucker, Tiala Johnson, great great grandchild Jessie Walls and his son in law Hamp Johnson.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Brenda Wall and family for their love, support and years of gentle caretaking, also we would like to thank Crowe’s Funeral Home and Harvest Kingdom for their guidance and warm hospitality in our time of need.
