Obituary for Mary Theresa West

Mary Theresa West was born to Catholic parents Gladys and Alfred West on February 1st, 1928. She was the oldest identical twin to her sister Iris Marie West better known as Pearl, at Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston Jamaica. Mary had 3 brothers, Teddy, Joe and Martin and 4 sisters, Sissy, Pearl, Dolly and Vannie.

At a young age Mary and her brothers and sisters, lost both parents which led to them living with their paternal Uncle. Later Mary and some of her siblings went to the Alpha Boarding school in Kingston where she found her love for sewing and gardening.

In May of 1953, Mary gave birth to her only child Marie. Later she left Jamaica for the UK in search for a better life. Here she became employed as a seamstress for Playboy and the Penthouse Franchise. Alongside sewing, Mary enjoyed music, reading and dancing.

In 1988, she left the UK and relocated to the USA to be closer to her brothers and sisters. In the USA she worked as a Nanny, looking after children. Following on from this she became as Aid caring for the elderly, until she later retired before becoming unwell herself.

Mary was blessed enough to have a large family. She had one daughter Marie. Two grand-daughters Karen and Donna. Five great-grandchildren, Kieron, Davina, Lashawna, Lamar and Tyreek. And four great-great grandchildren Kyion, Karter, KJ and Ashira-Rose.

On Thursday May 9th 2019, Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep. She will be missed by us all.
