Obituary for Barbara A. Gibbs

Barbara Ann Phillips Gibbs Norwood was born on January 4, 1949 to Sam and Gladys Phillips. Barbara was the fourth of six children.
She was raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and attended Public School 188, Junior High School 22 and graduated from Louis D Brandis High School in 1967.
Barbara married the late James (Joe) Gibbs in 1969 and moved to Brooklyn, NY and then to Jamaica Queens, NY where she raised her 2 daughters Teresa and Omeka whom she nurtured and loved unconditionally.
As a child, guided by her parents and 5 siblings Barbara attended Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. When she moved to Jamaica Queens, she rededicated her life to Christ where she attended and joined her current church, Deliverance Temple Church. Barbara proudly served as a member on the Usher Board, on the Pastors Aide and as a personal nurse to her Pastor Dr, Rita L Speller. She was thankful and very proud to serve in these capacities, which she continued until her health began to fail.
Having had a loving friendship with Bernard Norwood for over 30 years, she finally agreed to marry her soulmate and on March 28, 2010 they were joined together in Holy matrimony. Their faith in Christ and dedication to each other led them to put Christ first in their lives which ad the combining of the two families of children and other loved ones an easy process.
Barbara worked for The Foundation of Jewish Care Services for several years and retired in 2017.
Barbara was unique in many ways especially when she laughed, she laughed so hard at tears would roll down her face and when she greeted you with the big brown eyes and signature smile you could see Gods presence within her. She always let it be known that God was head of her life.
She is proceeded in death by her father Sam Phillips Sr, her mother Gladys Phillips and the recent passing of her Aunt Roberta Mims.
