Obituary for Donald "Hammer" Black

Donald Black was born on February 23, 1946 in Wadesboro, North Carolina to James and Mary Black. He departed this earth on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Jamaica Hospital.

Donald moved to Jamaica Queens, New York where he met his "Dream Queen", Linda. They were joined in holy matrimony on February 21, 1969. They had four children Leslie, Shari, Donney, and Cynthia. Donald was affectionately known as "Hammer". He loved his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Donald was employed for many years with the New York Department of Finance as a Carpenter prior to becoming self employed as a construction worker. Donald was a hardworking man. He enjoyed repairing and remodeling houses and complete renovations. He was a very skillful man in all phases of construction. He took pride in his work. Donald also enjoyed the looks on his customer’s faces after the completion of his work. He was a very direct person and did not bite his tongue for anyone. He was a simple man and did not take part in propaganda. Donald was a gentle giant and loved his hard peppermint candy and watching westerns on television.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents James and Mary Black and his siblings Emmett, Ewandia, and Evelyn.

He leaves to cherish many fond memories his wife Linda (Pittman) Black (Port Washington, NY); siblings Mary Ann, Annie, Debbie, Angela, and Theodore; his five children Debra Leonidas (Boston, MA), Leslie Murphy (Philadelphia, PA), Shari (Billy) Reid, Donney (Nicole)Black, Jr. (Freeport, NY), and Cynthia A. Black (Columbia, SC); twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He had a special friend Dorothy Jean Lampley (deceased) along with her children Fern, Sharon, Ruth, and Cherry who he also leaves to cherish many memories.

Donald will be truly missed by his family and friends.
