Obituary for Cora Lee Middleton

Cora Lee Middleton was born on May 29th 1917 to Emmerline Barno and Waiters Anderson in Sumter South Carolina. She departed this life on November 6th 2019 at the age of 102


Cora was the 3rd of Emmerline’s 8 children. She attend the Sumter City School District and moved to Baltimore Md. after high school. She migrated to New York in 1942 and made NYC her home. She later met and married Wellington Middleton who preceded her in death

Cora worked for two manufacturers of artist supplies. Grumbacher Art Materials and
Robert J Simmons Manufacturers of NYC. She became the head of shipping and receiving at
Robert J. Simmons and retired from the company in the early 1980’s


Cora loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. She loved music and could often be found dancing to the likes of Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Al Green and Jerry Butler. She also loved to travel taking numerous trips with her niece Tommie Thompson who was more like a daughter to her.

Cora was a kind and loving person that adored her family. She was a beautiful sister, wonderful aunt, and reliable friend with a warm heart and spirited personality. She was head Association for her apartment complex and complex and active in the local Senior Citizen Program and even supported an overseas child to ensure them a better life.

Cora leaves to mourn two sisters Dorothy Baker(Wilbert), Emmer Johnson (Emilio),
two nieces, Joyce Wilson(Lawrence), Tommie Thompson a nephew Wilbert Baker Jr.
Cousin Mary Louise Willimas and a host of great nieces, great nephews and friends.
