Obituary for Mary C. Pride

Mary Caroline Hill was born on February 3, 1927 in Uriah, Alabama. Mary was the first child born to the late George Albert and Alberta Hill. Mary departed this life on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at the age of 95.

Mary attended school in Uriah, Alabama. She joined the Grove Hill Baptist Church at an early age. She met and married her first husband Edmond McDonald. Mary and Edmond relocated to New Orleans and lived there until his death. They were married for 25+ years.

Following the death of her husband Mary returned to Bay Minette, Alabama to be with her family. She joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served on the Missionary board. Mary loved all types of music. She loved to sing and recite her favorite scripture, Psalms 23.

She later moved to Jamaica, New York and joined the Allen AME Church. There she met and married Deacon Charles Pride. They enjoyed a long life together until his death.

Mary enjoyed a long Sis retirement after working many years in domestic work. She was a strong woman who overcame many obstacles in her life. She was loved by her family and friends and anyone who met her.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husbands, Edmond McDonald and Charles Pride, brothers and sister, George Hill (Classie), Charlie Hill (Onelia), Carrie Hill, Jeffrey Hill, and Dan Hill (Verlene), brothers-in-law, Dan Henry, Ward Winston, and Sam Sanders.

Mary Pride is survived by her sisters, Anna Henry of Springfield Gardens, NY; Alberta Winston of Jacksonville, FL; and Ella Mae Sanders of McDonough, GA; Sister-in law Bernetha Hill, Bridgeport, CT; Godson Derrick Henry, a special niece Patricia Larkins (James) of Locust Grove, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a special friend and Nurse Deborah Dawkins.
