Obituary for Lucille Smith

In the name of Allah the beneficent, the merciful remembering the life of Lucille Lavan Smith.

Lucille Lavan Smith was 82 years old. She made her transition on September 14, 2022 with her family by her side and Far Rockaway New York.

Lucille was born On April 11, 1941 in Harlem New York to the proud parents of Perry and Catherine Lavan. Lucille was the eighth of 10 children.

She has had loving Relationships with her sisters and brothers. And was loved by her siblings for her devotion to her family. After high school Lucille met George Smith who will become the love of her life and her husband. Together for the next 18 years they raised 4 children successfully.

Over the next 60 years Lucille dedicated herself to her faith in Allah and Islam. She alongside her husband and brother Lawrence joined the nation of Islam in 1957. She then was called sister Lucille 6X from Mosque 7C On Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn.

Lucille was dedicated to her Lord, the cause, and her family. She was an exceptional mother, wife and friend. She also was a Believer at the mosque on Sundays, Went to Muslim girls training on Saturdays which transformed many young girls into women. She Never deviated from assisting with vanguard security detail. Her love for Islam was also inherited in her children. A treasure of a person, kind hearted, giving and never judgmental of others. She was a symbol of strength to everyone she knew. Wise beautiful and strong woman who gave of herself unselfishly and ask very little of others in return.

Lucille was also a licensed foster care mother and she worked over 25 years for the New York City Department of Foster care. She had a love of children beyond imagination. She loved and had a profound impact on many of the children she cared for. Euphoria Martin, Shanae & Jay McCray, Elisa Reyes, Marlon Monique Terrell and Kelly.

Lucille leaves to cherish her memories with her children Kim Smith, Ahmed Smith, Medina Smith, Shakir Smith. Grandchildren Quandeel Smith, Shanera Hardy, Shakir B Smith, Shair Smith, Samir Smith Great grandchildren Arianna and Idris Smith. Her sisters Sarah Lee, Mary Howard, and Lethea Mason. Sisters preceded are Kathleen Ward. Brothers Preceded are Thomas, Fred, Perry, Harold & Lawrence Lavan. And also a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
