A Time To Be Born
Viola “Marie” Fennell was born January 24, 1929 in Bronx, New York to the late Benjamin & Viola Powell Prescott. She was the fifth child of the seven to this union.
Viola attended Jane Adams High School where she majored in music.
Viola was born in the Bronx and moved to Corona, Queens where she married the late Howard H. Mingo. After this she moved to South Jamaica Housing. Receded to Rochdale Village where she passed onto glory.
Viola was employed at Kew Gardens Hospital where she later transferred to North Shore Hospital where she retired after 29 years of service.
Viola did not believe in spoiling the child and sparing the rod. She was a pistol of a woman. She was a hard working woman. She believed in working for what you want. She taught her children excellent work ethics.
On April 1, 2014 the Lord saw fit to peacefully take Viola home at the age of 85.
Viola leaves to mourn one sister, Thelma Johnson, two sons, Steven F. Mingo & Mario Guy Mingo both of Virginia, two daughters, Brenda D. Mingo of New York & Karen Mingo of South Carolina, ten grandchildren, Takana, David Petty, Jr. of Georgia, Tarsha, Rashawn Mingo, Cara Donte Hollingsworth of Raleigh, North Carolina, Wyatt Mingo, Dedric Mingo & Richard Nelson from Lancaster, South Carolina, Damien Hollingsworth of New York, Guy Mingo, Cashena D, Mingo from Norfolk, Virginia, one granddaughter, Antrell J. Neal from Charlotte, North Carolina, eighteen grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, a host of nieces & nephews and a host of great nieces & nephews, a very special niece that was close to her heart Lucille Price.
