On Arpil 3, 2014, I had the honor of celebrating Aunt Kat's 95th birthday with her. It began at midnight when her family, Ms. Ryans and I sang Happy Birthday to her in her kitchen. She was so happy and wearing her usual smile. She was grateful to God for allowing her to live to see that day. We talked for approximately 30 minutes, and then, she said she was going to say her prayers and retire for the night. Later that day, i returned to visit her and brought her a card and a gift. I read the card to her and gave her the gift, which was a lighted water fountain that represented calmness and peace. She told me that it was a beautiful gift and thanked me very much. I can't tell you how many times she expressed how happy she was that it was her 95th birthday and how good God had been to her. She and I sat, laughed, and talked for awhile longer. Before leaving, I turned the television channel to her favorite sport-baseball. She said she didn't care who was playing as long as it was baseball. We both laughed, and then, I kissed and hugged her goodbye. Not knowing it would be our last conversation, laugh, hug and kiss. Talking with Aunt Kat always made my heart smile! I thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to have known such a wonderful person. She was an angel, and I'm not just saying that either. I belive it. She was always helping others, caring, and giving, and it was always from her heart. She never looked for anything in return. She would always say what's the use of having it, if you can't share it. She lived by the bible and gave new meaning to "Love thy neighbor." I could go on forever about her, but there is not enough time on my side right now. If I coulud be like anyone, It would be like Mrs, Katherine Penn aka Aunt Kat. I will never forget her and will always love and miss her.
