I was always fond of my cousin, Ameenah and Scotty. They just had a lot of style and flare about them- selves. Cousin Ameenah was the same age as my parents. My father, Henry Clay was her first cousin double, two Larrymore brothers married two Moses sisters. She and my mother were also classmates and when she moved back to South Carolina , they resume a close friendship.
Cousin Ameenah was a person who gave a lot of herself in many endeavors. She was particular proud of her relationship with the young women she mentors and often spoke of them and keep in touch with them as her health would allow.
When she and Scotty came back to South Carolina to visit, my father would often take me to visit her and Cousin Lucille. It was after she moved back to South Carolina that I realized we were both born in October. When I chose my wife of 37 years, I was hoping that she would be someone like my Cousin Ameenah. Yes, we are still married.
Cousin Ameenah birth given name was (Clotelle), the same as my paternal grandmother, whom I never knew. She died when I was a baby. Cousin Ameenah and Cousin Lucille have also seemed more like my Aunts on my father's side as opposed to my father's first cousins. I guess that is because my father didn't have any siblings as we were growing up.
Too know Cousin Ameenah was to love her. She took an interest in everyone she met and shared her joy.
